Hi my name is Rob, I am 15 years old and have a rare cancer (Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumour) that predominantly affects teenagers.
Just before my 15th birthday (mothers day), I was taken to hospital. Previously I had been back and forth to hospital being diagnosed with different problems, food poisoning, gastroentoritis, a hernia, IBS (irritable bowl syndrome). On my last visit the doctors noticed that my prostate gland was swollen and I was finally admitted for further investigations.
After a number of blood tests and scans they noticed several tumours in my abdomen. I was transferred to The John Radcliffe Children's Hospital in Oxford where the consultants confirmed the rare cancer (DSRCT).
I had 5 courses of chemo which made me feel really sick, and i lost 3 stone, but i was fed with a feeding tube straight into my abdomen, to help maintain my weight. All this was to no avail, only to find out the chemo had no or little affect on my tumours, that later was to take my life.
My aim is to raise awareness of the fact I want to set up a fund to raise money for research into my condition. Also to help save other lives or at least give them a longer and better quality of life to enable them to live alittle, and raise awareness of my cancer, so that teens know about this rare and very agressive disease.
My aim is to raise £100,000 for a Research Fellow at John Radcliffe Children's Hospital for 3 years research into this rare condition
PLEASE HELP ME BY DONATING TO MY FUND. THANK YOU!!
